The former president of PNL Valeriu Stoica categorized as right “extremely dangerous” the blockage at the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) regarding the law that modifies the pensions of magistrates, comparing the situation to a football referee who leaves the field and refuses to officiate the match.
“This blockage is a sign of a structural crisis and of the conception of an institution whose purpose is to keep the balance of the state structure in Romania. That is, when the crisis appears in this state structure, the right balance, the balance, the solutions to remove conflicts between public authorities are in the Constitutional Court and we now see with sadness, surprise, bitterness that the referee of the game resorts to tricks that the players sometimes resort to in order not to referee. Imagine at a soccer match, the referee comes off the field and says:
The former liberal leader emphasized that the precedent created by the non-appearance of some judges at the CCR meetings may generate repeated blockages in the future.
“It is one thing to express your opinion as a minority, another is to prevent the decision being made. This precedent could generate similar situations endlessly, every time a minority does not agree with the majority. Well, this means a permanent blockage of the Court”. explained Stoica, according to News.ro.
The Constitutional Court postponed, on Friday, for the fourth time, the ruling in the case of unconstitutionality objections regarding the service pensions of the magistrates, setting a new deadline for February 11.
The judges motivated the decision by the need to study the issues of the case and the accounting expertise submitted by the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
In the previous sessions, the quorum was not met, either because four judges left the room and did not return, or because they did not show up.
