A Romanian woman who has been living in the UK for several years caused a lot of reactions on TikTok after she posted a video in which she clearly states that life in the United Kingdom has become much too expensive. “It is no longer worth living in the UK in 2025,” she says, explaining that while wages have remained roughly the same, living costs have risen considerably.

In the clip that went viral, the woman tells how the monthly expenses have reached levels that are difficult for an ordinary family to support. “If you ask me, the cost of living has skyrocketed. In 2022 I was paying £700 rent for a three-bedroom house in the north of England. In 2025, the same house costs £950. Bills have reached £500 a month and food costs at least £250 a week“, she says.
Românca specifies that these amounts represent only the basic needs, without including other important expenses such as insurance, installments or transport. “And we are talking about a relatively cheap area“, she points out. In big cities like London or Manchester, the woman says, living becomes almost impossible for someone with an average income.

“If you’re in the UK just to work, it’s still worth it”
It differentiates between those who go to the UK temporarily to raise money and those who want to settle there for life. “If you’re just there to work and collect money, it’s still worth it. Unskilled labor is still well paid and easy to find. But if you want a normal life, with a little peace and comfort, I don’t know how profitable it is”explains the Romanian.
“I chose Spain. I really feel like I live here”
In the end, the woman reveals that she decided to move to Spain, where, she says, she found a more settled lifestyle. “I found sunshine, decent prices and a life that actually feels like a life“, she states.
Her message opened a wave of discussions about the cost of living after Brexit and about the fact that more and more Romanians are considering leaving the UK for countries considered more accessible and friendlier.
