The Egyptian Mo Salah will leave Anfield Road, where he arrived in 2017. The main reason for his end is his bad relationship with coach Arne Slot (47 years old).
Mo Salah sits in the trophy room and sighs. Then, in the voice of someone who has something important and difficult to say, he begins to speak. “Hi everyone“, he says in a video posted on his social media profiles.
“Alas, the day has come: and this is the first part of my farewell. I will leave Liverpool at the end of this seasonWith these few sentences, accompanied by images of his triumphs, he closes the most important chapter of his career, one of the most beautiful in the recent history of the Reds.
“I want to start by saying that I never imagined how much this club, this city and its people would become a part of my life”, says Salah, in a sad voice.
“Liverpool is not just a club: it is passion, history, a spirit that is hard to put into words for anyone who is not a part of this club. We celebrated victories, won the biggest trophies and fought together through the most difficult moments of our lives.
I want to thank everyone who has been a part of the club during my years here, especially my team-mates past and present.
I don’t have enough words to thank my fans for the support they showed me during the most beautiful years of my career and for being by my side in the most difficult moments. It is something I will never forget and carry with me forever. Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best years of my life and I will always be one of you.
This club will always be my home, mine and my family’s. Thank you for everything: thanks to all of you, I will never walk alone“, said Salah.
Salah’s announcement was immediately followed by a statement from Liverpool, which highlighted that the forward had reached a divorce settlement, ending his nine years at Anfield.
“Salah has asked for the announcement to be made as soon as possible to provide immediate clarity on his future out of respect and gratitude to the fans. Salah remains focused on finishing in the best possible way until the end of the season. The time to celebrate the legacy he leaves behind and his triumphs will therefore be at the end of the season when he effectively says goodbye to Anfield.”
Arriving at Liverpool in 2017 from Roma after playing in Italy for Fiorentina, Salah signed a generous two-year contract extension at the end of last season. He is the third highest goalscorer of all time for Liverpool (255 goals in 435 games).
However, this season has been his weakest at Anfield, marked by a shocking interview at the end of November in which he attacked his manager. Mediation between his agent and the club, along with his time at the Africa Cup of Nations, helped to stabilize the situation and reintegrate Salah into the squad, but the relationship had already broken down and the player and the club came to the decision to part ways.
Salah will turn 34 on June 15, but he still feels like a top player, capable of making a difference, despite only 8 goals and 8 assists in 31 Premier League and Champions League 2025-26 matches, decidedly few for a player who dominated the world’s most powerful league last season alone with 29 goals and 18 assists, the best individual season in the modern history of the English championship.
Salah earns €13.2m net plus €3m in bonuses at Liverpool and is tipped to land in the Saudi League, who are willing to pay him as well as Cristiano Ronaldo. Salah is the best footballer the Muslim world has ever produced, and his enormous popularity would allow the Saudi league to gain more exposure, analysts believe.
