Video Fascination. “The destination that changed my opinion about Italy. It’s the perfect place for a honeymoon”

A popular Romanian vlogger, BlackPackYourLife, admitted that he no longer wants to leave Italy, which he avoided for many years, after visiting the Amalfi Coast in the middle of autumn. And even if the experience overturned all his calculations, in the end he mentioned that it was worth the whole adventure lived.

Known for his vlogs made in all corners of the globe, Cătălin Stănciulescu – BackPackYourLife – the name under which he posts on social networks, chose to visit Italy, despite the prejudices he had until now. At the suggestion of his followers he went to see Amalfi and Positano – the Amalfi Coast – and was amazed at what he discovered.

In his latest vlog (SEE VIDEO) but he also talked about the problems he faced in this new adventure and offered a series of tips for those who want to discover “another world” as “it doesn’t exist anywhere else”.

Positano is a picturesque town located on the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy and is known for its natural beauty, distinctive architecture and vibrant atmosphere. The Amalfi Coast is famous for its spectacular scenery, beautiful beaches and picturesque villages, making it a popular spot for tourists from all over the world.

“This place is a dream. It looks 50,000 times better than in the pictures”

“So many years I avoided Italynow I don’t want to leave. I fell in love”recognized the famous Romanian vlogger.

Stayed in Amalfi, went to visit Positano as well to make a comparison between the two destinations. “Obviously it’s absolutely gorgeous, but very expensive, more expensive than Amalfi, but worth it. I will try to compare the two destinations. So as a spoiler (disclosure – n.ed), it’s beautiful and I like it better here”said Cătălin at the beginning of the vlog about Positano.

He chose to enjoy the beauty of Italy behind the wheel of a rented car, and the fact that he faced a series of small troubles from the beginning did not deter him. He had a minor accident, but was saved by full insurance. Since he didn’t have a credit card, only a debit card, he basically paid for two insurances, ending up paying more for the insurance than for the actual rental. In total, the car cost him $270 for four days, when the rental was only $20 a day. He also mentioned the current fuel price on the Amalfi Coast – 1.76 euros/liter for unleaded gasoline.

About the coastal road between Amalfi and Positano, he mentioned: “It is one of the most beautiful I have seen in my life. What a Transfăgărașian! See how it all looks. This place is simply a dream. It looks 50,000 times better than in the pictures. My advice is to rent a car, because that’s the only way you can fully enjoy this «jewel-f….-rie»».

On the other hand, he also mentioned the long waiting times in traffic due to the numerous traffic lights on the coastal road, which is extremely narrow, installed to streamline traffic and due to ongoing works. In addition, there are also a lot of coaches, since many of the tourists come from Naples.

Positano overwhelms with beauty and exorbitant prices, even in the off-season

But the image that greeted him in Positano amazed him beyond measure: “It’s the perfect photo. It is much, much nicer than in the pictures. Look at this scenery! You can’t! There are two important places here: Positano and Amalfi. I want to make a comparison, but once you come here, both are worth it.”

The vlogger also mentioned the huge problem of parking spaces: not enough, too tight and extremely expensive, as well as how careful you have to be with traffic in the absence of sidewalks. For five hours of parking he paid no less than 40 euros.

And it wasn’t just parking that proved to be expensive, so were accommodations and food, despite visiting the area in the off-season. For example, following a search on the Internet, he found that the lowest prices for accommodation in Positano during this period start from 1,150 euros per night, to enjoy “this phenomenal view”. At the food he noted: “A single “oister” – oyster – costs 10 euros!”.

“Many years will pass before I can justify paying 1,000 euros for an accommodation. Because I can’t do that. Maybe later, who knows! Here you pay for the scenery. A very important piece of information: in Positano you can park in the area marked in blue, where it costs 4 euros per hour and can only be paid with coins. The problem with parking, however, is huge (even in the off-season – ed.)”the vlogger also mentioned.

Reaction on Central Beach: “Mom, how beautiful it is here!”

Next stop was at the beach: “I’m interested in the beach, being the last days when we can enjoy good weather.”

The way to the beach, however, proved difficult, on narrow pedestrian streets with hundreds of steps: “As in Santoriniyou must expect to go up and down. There are 400 steps”.

He also noted that without the help of locals it’s easy to get lost in the maze of streets, but a few words of Italian and the right accent can go a long way.

He visited two beaches, preferring the one in the central area of the city, which is more lively and extremely picturesque. At the first beach, he was disappointed by the volcanic sand with stones, a common aspect of many beaches in Europe, and pointed out the exorbitant prices : “I found out that here they have a limited tolerance of only five minutes to stay extra on the beach after the paid time expires. It’s ok, but you don’t come to Positano for the beach, you come for the whole package. Of everything I saw here, the beaches impressed me the least. A boat tour, for example, costs 35-40 euros for 30 minutes. It seems extremely expensive to me. But demand dictates price. It is much more expensive than in Amalfi. And one thing that bothers me in Europe is the pay toilet. I paid 3 euros for the bathroom on the beach in Amalfi. Everything seems to be a business for tourists. It seems scandalous to me”.

Instead, about the central beach he noted: “Mother, how beautiful it is here! Positano seems to me much more beautiful than Amalfi, more authentic! Here I saw some of the most beautiful restaurants (on the beach) of my life. Everything is very well thought out: the colors, the shops, the buildings… I like that there is no road separating the beach from the city. Everything seems to be done with more common sense. The climb is a bit more difficult. But the walk is worth it. Right now it’s sunset. This road is very worth it!”.

“It’s the most expensive place I’ve ever been”

Regarding the peppered prices in Positano, Cătălin remarked: “By far, this is the most expensive place I’ve ever been. Hong Kong and other places seem free by comparison. But the important thing is that it matters what you spend your money on. Here, for two people, seven days, including car rental, will cost you at least 2,100 – 2,500 euros, if you want to enjoy it to the fullest and avoid unnecessary expenses. There are lots of activities you can do, depending on your budget and how organized you are. You can also buy tours on the spot, but you’ll probably pay more. You come here for the view!”.

But he was terribly disturbed by the politics of Positano’s premises: “Here, if you sit down at the table, you are asked if you are eating or drinking, and if you say you are not sure, you don’t get a meal. Those who eat have priority. Not even water is free.”

And in many places, entry is conditional on ordering food: “You must choose at least one dish per person. I would understand if it was the season, but now…”.

A crucial piece of advice offered by the vlogger about the Positano experience concerns accommodation: “Book your accommodation at least five to six months in advance to find something decent. You can find very good accommodation for 250 – 280 dollars. It seems to me that the ideal months to visit this place are until summer – it’s still a very good month – and after summer, in September and October.” That is if you don’t want to be left with an empty card and face the busy season.

“Honeymoon in Positano, Santorini and Mauritius on a Maldives Budget”

The vlogger finally admitted that Positano and the Amalfi Coast in general are perfect places for a wedding or honeymoon, for special moments in our lives. He also offered some tips in this regard: “It’s a lot, it’s expensive, but these are places you go to once, twice at most in your life. It’s good, if you want to come here, do it at a special time, like a wedding or honeymoon, if you want it to be perfect. You come here for two or three days, then you go to Santorini, which is somehow in the same direction, for the same amount of time. Fly in Athens and then you go to the Philippines, to Boracay or Mauritius, with the budget of 7-10 days in the Maldives”.

He also noted that: “See some pretty girls around here! It is noted that in this part a Italy they are people with a lot of wealth. But I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay for a week or two, because it doesn’t make sense. I’m already on the second day and I’ve had enough. But, on the honeymoon you want to do other things, to visit… You won’t find anywhere else anything that comes close to what is here”.

The final conclusion was: “Positano is much, much more beautiful than Amalfi, in terms of views, in terms of absolutely everything. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Be sure to come here for at least two to three days. I guarantee you that the experience will be special. I think the ideal amount for this place, as a couple, is 1,000 euros/day. I like Positano better than Amalfi. It seems detached from another world”.
