The 83rd edition of the Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday night, at the Beverly Hilton, and brought to the forefront film and television productions with a strong impact. The films “One Battle After Another” and “Hamnet” won the main prizes, while the series “The Pitt”, “The Studio” and the miniseries “Adolescence” dominated the TV categories.
The film “One Battle After Another”, a harsh political satire, was the big winner of the gala, obtaining four trophies. Paul Thomas Anderson was awarded both for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
Also, Teyana Taylor won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in the same film.
“Hamnet,” directed by Chloe Zhao and produced by Focus Features, was named Best Drama Film, according to News.
Jessie Buckley won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her portrayal of a grieving mother inspired by William Shakespeare’s family life.
In the male category, the award for Best Actor in a Drama Film went to Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, for his leading role in “The Secret Agent.”
The series, among the big winners
In television, “The Pitt,” a drama series about life in an overworked hospital, was named Best TV Series – Drama, and Noah Wyle won Best Actor in a Drama Series.
“The Studio,” a parody of the Hollywood industry, was named Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy. Seth Rogen received the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role in this series.
The miniseries “Adolescence”, produced by Netflix and focused on a murder investigation, won four awards, the highest number in the series category.
Stephen Graham won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Miniseries. Erin Doherty was named Best Supporting Actress in a TV Drama Series, and 16-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest ever winner in the supporting male category.
Jean Smart was awarded the award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series for her role in “Hacks.”
Other important prizes
Rose Byrne won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” and Timothée Chalamet won Best Actor for “Marty Supreme.”
The award for Best Song in a Movie went to “Golden” from “KPop Demon Hunters”, and Ludwig Göransson won the trophy for Best Soundtrack for “Sinners”.
Ricky Gervais won the Golden Globe for Best Stand-up Comedy TV, with the show “Mortality”, broadcast on Netflix.
For the first time, the Golden Globes included a category dedicated to podcasts. The prize was won by Amy Poehler, for the talk show “Good Hang”.
The gala was presented for the second consecutive year by Nikki Glaser, who opened the ceremony with a monologue in which she satirized sensitive topics, from the Epstein files to the American press and the entertainment industry.
Glaser also satirized Hollywood’s self-sufficiency, calling the Golden Globes “the most important thing happening in the world right now.”
