Realbotix, the company that manufactures these robots, says that the new technology “overcomes the barrier between man and machine” and would benefit the growing phenomenon of loneliness, writes the British newspaper Express.
Aria, the new female robot model, attracted attention these days when it was introduced at a technology conference in Las Vegas.
“This is our AI-powered humanoid robot. She is very realistic, has her own social media profile and could compete with you one day. What makes her so special is that you can talk to her and ask her questions“, Andrew Kiquel, the executive director of Realbotix, explained to reporters.
He also thinks that although manufacturing robots to be used in the field of work is lucrative, it is much more profitable to design them to serve as life partners.
Since Aria can carry on conversations with the help of artificial intelligence, Kiquel hopes to help combat the phenomenon of loneliness among adults and teenagers. “It can be programmed to discover a lot about you. It can even create a connection with you that feels like a human interaction.”
However, Aria does not have the ability to handle household chores, being programmed only to chat and provide companionship. “I can even be your boyfriend or girlfriend, we built that into our bot”adds the director.
Melody, the company’s newest model, is able to detect motion and maintain eye contact, and can even be disassembled to fit in a suitcase.
The price for such robots starts from 8,000 pounds, and can reach up to 160,000 pounds, if the client wants his humanoid to be interactive, fully mobile and look like a person.
