“Today, 60% of children hate mathematics because they feel they are socially disqualified by the fact that they do not know how to do certain things. It is not about it. Mathematics must help us to structure our minds, to be useful in life.” said the head of state, at the end of the conference “Europe at the crossroads – security, prosperity and our common future”.

Asked how the math helps him in the position he holds, Nicușor Dan explained that the discipline offered him an important reflex. “The reflex that mathematics gives you is to put things in order, and if you do math for a long time, you acquire it“He said.

Nicușor Dan pointed out that Romania still has a competitive advantage, due to its tradition in technical education, inherited from great reformers such as Spiru Haret or Grigore Moisil.

According to the head of state, the school has the task of doing the mathematics attractive for children.

“Mathematics must have an important role, but taught so as to develop the ability to think and not just recipes”, the president pointed out.
