“Tartan Army” fans drank almost all of Boston’s beer stocks ahead of Scotland’s first World Cup match in 28 years, as stars such as Gerard Butler arrived in the city to support the team, writes the Daily Mail.

One user wrote on the X platform that a friend in Boston with her Scottish husband overheard a pub owner telling staff they were out of beer and needed to order more to keep up with demand.

“A friend is at the World Cup in Boston with her Scottish husband and it seems the Tartan Army is drinking the town dry. The owner of a pub was telling the staff: ‘We don’t have enough beer, we’re running out. I have to order more'”he wrote.

The lack of beer in the city comes just days after it was reported that some planes carrying supporters from Scotland to the Massachusetts capital also ran out of beer during the flight.

NBC’s Brianna Borghi was at Boston’s Logan International Airport to cover the arrival of Scotland fans when she learned that a plane’s supply of beer was nearly depleted.

“Scotland fans arrive here at Logan airport and guess what? They told us their plane ran out of beer so clearly they’re not kidding”she stated.

Scottish celebrities also arrived in Boston to show their support for the team ahead of its first World Cup match in nearly three decades. They included Gerard Butler, Martin Compston and Richard Gadd.

A group of supporters also went viral on social media after being filmed playing bagpipes outside the Airbnb rental where he is staying, decorated with Scottish flags.

Describing the moment on X, Mike Morrison, head of communications at Mass General Brigham, wrote:

“In the middle of the night the Scots arrived at the Airbnb across the road. Dressed in their gear and playing bagpipes at 6:30 in the morning. So it begins…”

More than 1,000 fans are expected to arrive at the stadium in Foxborough on a fleet of yellow school buses.

The BBC reports that an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 Scottish fans traveled to Boston for this World Cup match. Now they’re joined by a wave of last-minute fans staying in as far afield as New York and Rhode Island.

“It’s a real Scottish invasion, absolutely everyone is here. I don’t know how anyone’s left at home.” said David Martin, 28, from Glasgow.

He added: “I resigned from my job so I could be here. I couldn’t miss this moment. I missed the European Championship and I wasn’t going to let that happen again.”
