MEP Diana Șoșoacă, president of SOS Romania, gave an interview to Russia Today in which she accuses NATO and the European Union of trying to “push Romania” in a conflict with Russia, in the context of the incident with the drone that crashed on a block in Galati on Friday.
Diana Șoșoacă requested an international investigation into the origin of the drone and claimed, without presenting evidence, that the incident would have been used to justify some defense contracts, including within the European SAFE program.
The MEP stated that the episode would be part of a wider strategy: “it is another attempt, not only by Zelenski, but also by NATO, Ursula von der Leyen and the European Union, to push Romania to attack Russia and enter a war”.
The President of SOS Romania claimed that the statements of some European leaders would show that Romania is considered “a key country”concluding: “They want us to have a war here“.
Allegations regarding the SAFE program and the role of the caretaker prime minister
Sosoacă stated that the incident would have been used to speed up the signing of anti-drone contracts, citing statements by interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan.
“Ilie Bolojan, interim prime minister, said that this is why the SAFE contract for the anti-drone program must be signed and that he will sign it in a few hours“, said the member of the European Parliament, arguing that the authorities would fuel public fear to justify military investments.
The MEP also criticized the reaction of the Ministry of Defense, saying that the army should have intervened: “If we have a drone of this type, it should be shot down, right?”.
Criticism of support for Ukraine
The leader of SOS Romania contested the drone contracts and military support granted to Ukraine, arguing that Romania should produce the defense equipment domestically. “There are very big interests and contracts made for other interests. Why not produce drones in Romania?”, said Sosoacă, accusing the country of being “sacrificed for Germany, Ursula von der Leyen, France and these powers in the European Union”.
Sosoacă also resumed the attacks on President Nicușor Dan, whom he stated that “is not recognized by the Romanian people”also accusing the authorities from Bucharest that “does not represent the interests of Romania”.
We remind you that a Russian-made kamikaze drone crashed on a block of flats in Galati on Friday night, causing an explosion and a fire on the 10th floor. Two people were injured. The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the drone had an explosive charge of 30 kilograms, and the remains are identical to those previously recovered in the Ceatalchioi, Grindu and Luncavița areas.
On Monday, the UN Security Council met for the first time at the express request of Romania on a topic that directly involves it. Oana Țoiu, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, denounced “unprovoked aggression” and repeated airspace violations, Russia dismissed the allegations as “unfounded”talking about “conspiracy theories” and “Ukrainian challenges”and the EU strongly condemned the incident, stating that “this reckless act was no accident” and that Moscow carries “full responsibility” for the aftermath of the attack.
