The lawyer from Târgumureşean Előd Kincses died on Wednesday, June 25th. The deceased’s family asked the press not to participate in the funeral ceremony that took place on July 4, 2025, in the Reformed Cemetery in Târgu Mureş, to which Viktor Orban would have taken part, along with several officials from Hungary.

The bereaved family begs the media representatives not to take photos or video recordings during the funeral and to respect the family’s mourning, as well“, The lawyer’s daughter, Reka Kincses said, according to Agerpres.

Prior to 1990, Kincses defended Pastor László Tőkés in the trial in Timisoara with the communist authorities.

One of the great lessons of Hungary’s history is that in the darkest hours, when the need is greater, there are always brave patriots, who are at the forefront of the fight, return the fate of the Hungarians back in the good direction. (…) His life and work (Előd Kincses no) are both evidence and teaching. He proves that as long as there are Hungarians prepared to act, there is hope. And he teaches us that it can never happen again for Hungary to leave Transylvania alone! Today we came to Târgu Mureș to say goodbye. God bless you!“, Said Viktor Orbán, on Facebook.

Előd Kincses, former leader of the Mureş National Salvation Front in the early 1990s, is recognized as being Lawyer of former MEP László Tőkésbut also of some persons convicted following the interethnic conflict in Târgu Mureş, from March 19-20, 1990.

I received deep sadness that, at the age of 84, Előd Kincses – a lawyer, publicist, one of the most important personalities of Hungarian public life in Romania, ceased. In the center of the activity and of its entire work were the service of its nation, the defense of the rights of minorities, the search and protection of the truth. Among other things, in 1989, he was the defender of the reformed pastor László Tőkés in Timisoara, in the process of evacuation that later generated an act of resistance against the regime, leading to the popular revolt and to the outbreak of the Romanian Revolution. Through his courage and wisdom, Előd Kincses contributed decisively to limiting the victims during the antimaging events in ‘Black March’ from Târgu Mureş, and after the conflict with tragic consequences he made superhuman efforts to investigate the causes and to unmask the responsibilities of those facts. His devotion to the Hungarian community in Transylvania, the love of Fatherland, his professionalism and his undeniable clairvoyance have been among the most valuable people of his generation.“, The founding members of the Association” December 15 – the day of the Romanian -Hungarian solidarity “showed, including László Tőkés.
