Works signed by Pablo Picasso can be admired, for the first time, at the Palace of Culture in Iasi, in an exhibition that, for ten days, brings before the public painted and glazed ceramics and chromolithographs created by the great artist of the 20th century.
The manager of the Palace of Culture in Iasi, Andrei Apreotesei, said on Friday that until July 12, in the time interval 10:00 – 17:00 (Tuesday – Thursday, Sunday), respectively 10:00 – 18:00 (Friday and Saturday), with the Art Museum ticket, visitors can admire three pieces of ceramics and six more chromolithographs signed by Picasso, which reflect themes representative of his vast artistic universe.
“It’s the first collection dedicated to Picasso that we manage to bring to Iaşi, at the Palace of Culture, in the new Treasury Hall of the Art Museum. I think it’s a good continuation of Brâncuşi’s exhibition. We will try to bring to the attention of the Iași public famous names from the history of art, but especially objects or works that are not in the current heritage and that are not easily noticed or viewed by those who cross our threshold”said the manager of the Palace of Culture – National Complex “Moldova” Iasi.
exhibition “Picasso at the Palace”, organized by the National Museum Complex “Moldova” Iaşi, in partnership with Artmark, brings to the center of attention some ceramic pieces in limited series, made in the prestigious Madoura Plein Feu workshop in Vallauris, France, where Pablo Picasso created almost 4,000 such pieces, between 1947 and 1971.
“The chromolithographs are based on Picasso’s most important works, which marked the entire 20th century and mean modernity in art regardless of where we are. I am referring to the chromolithographs The Ladies of Augvinion, The Portrait of Dora Maar”said for Agerpres, the president of the Union of Visual Artists Iași, Maria Bilasevschi.
According to her, in the exhibition we will also find ceramic pieces that the Romanian public did not have the opportunity to enjoy even in the 1968 exhibition, the largest exhibition dedicated to Picasso.
The director of the Iasi National Art Museum, Valentina Druţu, explained why the exhibition “Picasso at the Palace“we also want to be a bridge between contemporary art and the role of the museum to educate.
“I think it is an exhibition that will be very well received by young people and especially by the students of the ‘Octav Băncilă’ College of Art and the students of the ‘George Enescu’ University of Art. The exhibition also has a didactic purpose. You don’t get to see the works of the great artist every day”. specified this.
Alexandra Sulugiuc, art advisor, said that the works will remain in Iasi until July 12, and will be auctioned in Bucharest on July 15.
“We wanted to bring three ceramic works to the public from Iași, to collectors and to the curious which are part of a rather limited collection. These works are extremely rare on the art market, even less so in Romania, from the period 1953, 1956 and 1963. And in addition we brought some graphic works by Pablo Picasso, to offer the public and more accessible works to arouse the interest and curiosity of collectors“, said Alexandra Sulugiuc.
