According to the Detroit Metro Times and court documents, the sentence was handed down Monday by a Lenawee County Circuit Court judge following a temporary restraining order against Combs granted to Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, 51, who describes it as “Michigan inmate known for his long history of challenging the court system with civil lawsuits.”
The suit alleges that Combs drugged and sexually assaulted Cardello-Smith in 1997 at a party in Detroit.

The judge set a payment schedule of $10 million per month starting October 1, writes variety.com.

The default judgment came after Combs failed to appear for a virtual hearing on Monday.

Cardello-Smith met Combs while working at a restaurant in the Detroit area. The two met a group of women at a party and were having sex with them when Cardello-Smith says he felt a male hand touch him, which he claims was Combs. He stated that Combs later offered him a drink, which was intoxicated and caused him to pass out. He stated that he woke up to see Combs having sex with a woman; Combs reportedly told him: “I did that to you too.”

According to the Metro Times, Cardello-Smith, who is serving an unrelated sentence, is self-taught studying civil and criminal law.

Cardello-Smith claims that in August, Combs offered her $2.3 million to drop the lawsuit, but Combs declined and said she would pursue legal action. Combs reportedly replied: “You know how we get along“; Cardello-Smith stated that he replied: “I don’t agree with the way you get along.”

Although Combs has denied most of the multiple allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against him, in June he admitted to assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, after video footage of a 2016 hotel incident surfaced. He apologized.
