It is again that period of the year when the graduates of the gymnasium are waiting with emotion the distribution to the high school. Whether or not they reach the right place, it depends on the one side of the admission, and on the other on the options expressed. What should matter when they make the options.

The choices that students and parents make (and the practice show that in most cases the choice of high school is more parents) will dictate what is happening in the next four years. If the chain for which it has opted is not in accordance with the teenager’s skills and interests may follow a tormenting period, in which the motivation to learn is lost. The effects can be even more serious, explains Loredana Stroiuleasa, psychologist, school counselor at the County Center for Resources and Educational Assistance Olt, which we asked how we choose the high school.
“Until we get to choose a high school, we must first discover ourselves. Let’s find out our personal and social identity. Let’s see What skills do we havewhat suits us ”says the counselor.
In the psycho-pedagogical counseling offices in schools, counselors have different tests, including BTPAC (battery of psychological tests of aptitude and career). At the end of the administration of this type of test, a profile of the professional skills is obtained and what trades would suit the student according to them. “This test passes the student through logic, mathematical, concentrated, functioning, (…) (…) Following attention. The transition from high school to high school is done correctly when the child discovered his skills and goes to what suits him, not what is fashionable or what high school is better, adds the counselor from CJRAE Olt.
“Parents have a very important role in helping the child make him understand that applying tests by which he is discovered are important. And one more thing: parents to accept what’s good for the child, in the sense of what suits him. Maybe he has inclinations to the arts and the parent must accept that he does not match accounting, or mate-info (and mate-info if possible) ”, It also draws the attention of Stroiuleasa.
In the case of a bad choice, admission is not the problem, but what follows.
“The child is admitted, because he is a good child, he has prepared, but he arrives during high school not to find, or to cope, to appear anxiety, lack of motivation, conflicts with parents, a decrease in self -esteem. All this appears when the right high school is not chosen ”the counselor points out.
In severe cases, in which it does not intervene in time, or the child does not benefit from the understanding of the parents, one can reach the school dropout, or even to suicide attempts, “Not because this would like the child, to die, but because he wants to draw attention to being in the right direction.”. “Actually the child may not be found and not focus on school, not to be able to. Disappearing the motivation, the normal desire to learn, to take notes, to work, actually ”disappears”, actually ”, says the psychologist.
Pressure of national assessment
Admission to the favorite high school depends, on the other hand, on the result at the National Assessment. Precisely because parents want for their children what is best sometimes get to exert unwanted pressure on them.

“The tests are done on the computer, they are quite interactive, and in the children they say “wow, look what I can do, what I did!”, So it is a tangible, easily quantifiable result “, says the psychologist.
In schools where there is no school counselor, the role of the leader is particularly important, which can request the presence of a counselor in the respective school for such tests.
Often the hardest is not to become aware of the student who is interested and what suits him, but the father is willing to give up, possibly, to the decision he can already adopt for the child. “Here it also belongs to the school counselor as he manages to make the parent understand that the good of the child is above any other desire of the parent or nations. The child’s desire is more important and the fact that you actually show the result of the test, you show something tangible, something done by a software, it helps you to understand it ”says Stroleasa.
However, in the public schools in Romania, too few of the students still benefit from career counseling and orientation, and the fact that this does not happen is also found in the figures on high school. “The information and this process are not carried out with all the children and that is why we also have dropout in high school, we also have anxious children, we have children in depression and with problems in high school and not all satisfied with the high school “, adds Loredana Stroiuleasa.
When would it be appropriate to perform the counseling
Career orientation would be good to do with enough time before the exam, especially since the structure of the exam depending on which the high school distribution does not help.
“Through the 7th grade should happen. Unfortunately and national assessment limits us In only two disciplines, Romanian and mathematics. And then children reach the last years to effectively focus on the examination disciplines and no longer focus on the profile where they will arrive. I get there, I see what I do, they tell themselves. And the children arrive at high school, Mate-Info, even Mate-Intensive, and realize that mathematics and computer science are at a much higher level than what was asked for national evaluation and what has been prepared for national evaluation and do not cope. Because they do not have skills, they do not have the necessary inclinations. The child was prepared for Romanian and mathematics and took over 8. But it is not necessarily good in mathematics or it is necessarily good in Romanian. He actually learned, prepared for an exam. But not for a profile ”, Psychologist Loredana Stroiuleasa draws attention.
After admission, in most cases there are few solutions to change something. Sometimes transfers are made after the first year of high school, either between high schools, or between the specializations of the same high school. Other times, all the parents have to do is motivate their child to learn and orient themselves for the faculty to the field that corresponds to his interests. During this time the child must be supported, the psychologist points out.
“I encountered situations in which the children were no longer able to come to school and to go out into society, total social isolation. It can also be reached in the position and the environment in which the child lives at home, how big the pressure is that the parents put on the child, how much the child manages to externalize in front of the parents. Because if we have a family where communication truly exists, where the child is listened to and takes into account his opinion, then it is communicated, discussed and a favorable result is discussed.
But there are families where the parent says – you do as I say! -And then the problems are more serious, because he gets afraid to tell him what he feels. (…) When parents really become aware and come and say what children are going through, digging in the past we discover the cause that has led to this effect. And it is also reached by the wrong choice of high school and profile ”says the counselor.
Calendar admission
We recall that between July 14 and 21, the students who graduated from the eighth grade and supported the National Assessment 2025 will complete the options in the 2025 high school admission sheets, in the presence of the parent and the leader, according to the official calendar.
On July 23, 2025, the computerized distribution in the high school education of the eighth grade is made.
The submission of the enrollment files to the high school education units to which the candidates were admitted is carried out during the period stipulated in the calendar of admission in high school for the school year 2025-2026, between 24 and 29 July 2025.
