In a tense debut of the Extraordinary General Assembly of the LPF at Poiana Brașov, the leadership of the League made an unexpected decision.

The modification of the statute proposed by the president Gino Iorgulescu himself, which would have limited the right to run for the presidency of the League only to those with at least five years of experience in a first league club or in structures such as FRF or LPF, was abandoned.
This proposal would have excluded Gino Iorgulescu’s potential opponents in the 2027 elections, including Dani Coman, the current head of FC Argeș.
Important victory for Gino Iorgulescu
Although he lost on the amendment of the statute, Gino Iorgulescu achieved a major victory. The limit of mandates at the head of the LPF, which until now provided for a maximum of two mandates of 5 years each, was eliminated.
13 SuperLiga clubs were “for”, two opposed (FC Botoșani and Universitatea Craiova), and Csikszereda abstained. Dinamo, Rapid and even FC Argeș, the club where Dani Coman, the main opponent of Gino Iorgulescu, works, were among the “for” votes.
Gino Iorgulescu has led the LPF since 2013 and had the right to run for office in 2017 and 2022, after the change of the term limit in 2014. Before him, Mircea Angelescu (1993–1996) and Dumitru Dragomir (1996–2013) led the League.
What Coman and Iorgulescu said
At the end of the General Assembly, Dani Coman and Gino Iorgulescu went out together to make statements in front of the press.
“Almost the whole League is extremely well prepared, they are in perfect collaboration with everyone. It is right that both I and Gino Iorgulescu have the right to run for the next elections. It is good that we will now fight with equal weapons“, said Dani Coman.
“It wouldn’t be a problem if Dani Coman was elected president in 2027. I would even offer to be his advisor, as I have over a decade of experience running the League and plenty of advice to offer“, claimed Gino Iorgulescu.
