Exclusive An influential liberal is running for the position of vice president at FR Tennis. The post of president, disputed by 7 people

The Steering Committee of the Romanian Tennis Federation has convened the Ordinary General Assembly and Elections for today. There was no quorum (out of a list of 288, only 24 club representatives were present in the room), so the process will be resumed.

The Ordinary Assembly will gather again tomorrow, from 11:00. A quorum (two thirds) will have to be made again. If the required number is not collected, after 30 days another call will be made, and the elections will be held with half plus 1 of the members. If even then “white smoke” does not come out, in another two months, the elections will be held only with those present in the hall.

On the list of candidates, for the post of vice president, the name of Stelian Bujduveanu, the current vice mayor of the Capital, appears. He is the liberal appointed interim general mayor by Nicușor Dan, after he left for Cotroceni and until the current mayor, Ciprian Ciucu, is installed after the elections.

Bujduveanu is running in the team of the current president, George Cosac, his name not being connected to tennis, according to sources consulted by “Adevărul”. “We only know that he is from Constanta and Macedonian, like Halep“, points out a tennis insider.

The editorial office tried to get a reaction from Bujduveanu, but he did not respond to the message sent on the official Facebook page.

Bujduveanu’s name appeared on the occasion of Simona Halep’s visit to Nicușor Dan in October 2022, when the country’s president was the general mayor of the capital.

The subjects were represented by two projects: the construction of the National Sports Complex and the Doherty sports base, a partnership with the City Hall of Sector 1, the desire being that the respective location would become the new National Center of FR Tennis.

The two vice-mayors of the Capital, Horia Tomescu and Stelian Bujduveanu, also participated in the discussions, digisport informed at the time.

Candidates from four gangs

There are 7 candidates for the head of the tennis federation. They are gathered in four groups.

One has as its leader the current president George Cosac, helped by “lieutenants” Dumitru Hărădău and Ion Șerban, supported, it seems, by the influential Ion Țiriac.

Another gang is gathered around Tudor Iacov (brother of Costi Iacov, former president of the FC National football team). He teams up with Marius Vecerdea from Sibiu, patron of the Pamira tennis club and friend of Klaus Iohannis.

A third candidate is Răzvan Itu, former vice-president and former director general of FR Tenis, appointed by Ion Țiriac on his mandate, but who turned his weapons against the “grouping” Cosac”.

A fourth candidate with a chance of winning is Silviu Matei, the former general director of FR Tennis during the mandate of Ruxandra Dragomir (2009-2013), a good friend of Elena Udrea.
