A new modernized railway section within the Lugoj-Timișoara lot, almost 10 kilometers long, was put into circulation.
CFR Infrastructura Timișoara announces that a new modernized section of 8.6 km + 900 m Line 3 Recaș Station was opened to railway traffic on Thursday evening. This section is part of lot 2 Lugoj – East Timișoara.
In the areas returned to traffic, complex infrastructure works were carried out, including 10 decks and 5 bridges built, 7 type 60 interchanges, platform wire II PO Izvin and platform line 3-4 Recaș Station, these will be completed in the near future, as well as the installation and cabling of equipment in the CE container and the CED Recaș relay room.
The new section comes as a continuation of line II put into operation on February 12, 2026, adding to the approximately 30 km of modernized line that is currently in use.
The project concerns the Caransebeș-Arad line
Lot 2 Lugoj-Timișoara Este is part of the project aimed at the rehabilitation of the Caransebeș – Arad line, a segment of the East/East Mediterranean corridor.
The objective of the project financed by PNRR is the modernization of the 162 km long Caransebeș – Timișoara – Arad railway line, as a double line, electrified, controlled by a system that ensures the interoperability requirements, for the movement of trains with speeds between a minimum of 120 km/h and a maximum of 160 km/h, on the entire section.
Among the benefits of the project are the reduction of travel time as a result of the increase in traffic speed, the improvement of the safety conditions of railway traffic, the improvement of comfort during the journey and the increase of the transit capacity at the borders.
The total value of the project exceeds 8.7 billion lei.
