The former great athlete Doina Melinte, who in the past held the position of secretary of state within the National Anti-Doping Agency (ANAD), said on Wednesday that the gymnast Ana-Maria Bărbosu will definitely be suspended because the sanction is automatically applied when she has three deviations from the anti-doping regulations.
“I would say it’s the mother’s fault. She left Romania for America, but I think she probably won’t be able to do sports anymore. She did not comply with an anti-doping procedure. I was undersecretary of state at the National Anti-Doping Agency for ten years.
If the doping control officers are looking for you and they don’t find you three times at home where you announced in the system, then of course a warning is given. These are the rules and must be followed. If you have three violations and they do not find you at home, so you have not had three doping controls, then you are automatically suspended“, said the former athlete, at an event organized by COSR.
Doina Melinte was awarded on Wednesday by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee during the General Assembly held at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Complex in Izvorani. The former athlete, Olympic champion in Los Angeles 1984, lost her COSR membership due to the age limit, she received the honorary membership as a sign of respect for her career achievements.
The International Testing Agency (ITA) has completed an administrative procedure regarding gymnast Ana-Maria Bărbosu and proposes a two-year suspension for violating anti-doping regulations.
Under anti-doping regulations, performance athletes are required to report their home or whereabouts to the ADAMS app for 60 minutes each day so that agents can conduct unannounced tests. It is considered a violation if an athlete is not found at the announced location within 60 minutes. Three such anti-doping rule violations in a calendar year result in the athlete being sanctioned, even if the athlete does not test positive.
