A payment note published by a Romanian tourist for a meal taken in Thassos has caused numerous reactions on social networks, in the context of increasingly frequent discussions about the costs on the Romanian coast.
The experiences of Romanian tourists in Greece continue to be commented on on social networks, especially when it comes to the inevitable comparisons with the prices on the Romanian coast. A post recently published on the Facebook group “Forum Thassos” attracted attention after a tourist showed how much he paid for a meal for five people on the Greek island.
The Romanian said that he went to Taverna Sakis, a restaurant located on the beach in Skala Rachoni, where he had lunch with four other people. The menu included fish and seafood dishes, including sea bream, octopus, mullet and mix fish, to which side dishes, skordalia, dessert, wine and beer were added.
In the end, the bill was 118 euros for five people, that is, about 23-24 euros per person, the equivalent of about 120 lei per person.
“Yesterday dinner in the mountains, today lunch at the sea, near the beach, at Taverna Sakis in Skala Rachoni. That’s how today’s session looked, where we set the path to the country. And I had an appetite for mix fish, sea bream, octopus and mullet. And if they liked it a lot yesterday, the girls also asked for potatoes with eggs on top today. All very good! 118 euros including bread, skordalia, dessert, wine and beer, for 5 people”, wrote the Romanian on the group dedicated to the island of Thassos.

It is not the only experience that draws attention to the difference between the way the Greeks understand how to attract tourists, given the attitude of local operators. Another Romanian told the same group that he had a surprise in a restaurant in Prinos, after ordering “patsas”, the traditional Greek soup similar to belly soup.
“On business today in Prinos, I had a very pleasant surprise when I ate “patsas” – traditional Greek soup, similar to belly soup, in the restaurant “La Strada 69″. The surprise is that the owners heard that Romanians eat something similar and brought… cream! Maybe it doesn’t seem like something wow, but here you can’t find it much! With vinegar, spices, salt and bread, we had a wonderful lunch, at a affordable price! I’ll definitely come back when I’m in the area!”, he wrote.
Such accounts contribute to the image that Greece has built in recent years among Romanian tourists: clean destinations, substantial portions and prices that many still consider affordable, despite the increases in European tourism.
Every summer season, comparisons between vacations in Greece and those on the Romanian coast come back into discussion, and the payment notes published online often end up influencing the decisions of those planning their summer vacation.
