Nadia Comăneci will receive, on Saturday, at 12.00, one of the most important distinctions of the Romanian state. The country’s president, Nicușor Dan, signed the decree by which the former great Olympic champion will be decorated with the National Order “Star of Romania” in the Grand Cross degree.
The decision comes 50 years after the Olympic Games in Montreal 1976, the competition where Nadia Comăneci entered the history of world sports after obtaining the first perfect 10 in gymnastics.
With this distinction, the Romanian authorities want to thank him for everything he has done for Romanian sport and for Romania’s image in the world. Nadia Comăneci is considered one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, and her performances have remained a symbol of excellence and work at the highest level.
The decree signed by the president was also published in the Official Gazette.
The Oneşti Municipal Sports Club also receives the First Class Sports Merit Order, “on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Olympic Games in Montreal 1976 – a unique performance of Romanian gymnastics, as a sign of high appreciation for the excellence and professionalism with which it contributed to the consolidation of the Olympic prestige of our country, for the proven dedication in the process of training young generations of champions, as well as for the influence exerted on the evolution of sports worldwide!”writes Agerpres.
