The Australian singer, 57, revealed in her new Netflix documentary KYLIE that in 2005 she put off chemotherapy to undergo “numerous” IVF cycles.
Kylie Minogue has revealed her hopes of becoming a mother were painfully dashed when cancer treatment affected her chances of conceiving naturally.
In the documentary, Kylie breaks down in tears and says what she felt:
“I didn’t want to, but I did. I just wanted to keep it all to myself and get through that year. I tried to find the right path. I was 36 when I got the diagnosis, so I already had to think about children. I tried, I even put off chemotherapy to try, which was quite scary at the time because you just want to get rid of the disease.”
In an extremely emotional moment of the documentary, Kylie read a letter written symbolically to an unborn child, in which she expressed her hopes and turmoil during that time: “Distant child, my flower, are you swaying in the breeze? Do you feel me as I give you life? . . .”
After recovering from her first diagnosis, Kylie considered alternative ways to become a mother, such as adoption and surrogacy, after IVF cycles failed.
“If it had worked, it would have been almost a miracle. But it didn’t,” she confessed.
Kylie bravely battled breast cancer at just 36 years old and secretly went through a second battle with cancer in 2021.
In her new Netflix documentary, the Australian singer said that “went through it again”, but added that he decided not to make the news public.
“My second cancer diagnosis was in early 2021. I was able to keep it to myself,” said Minogue, 57. “Not like the first time.”
“Thankfully I got over it, again, and everything is fine”she continued. “Hey, who knows what’s in store for me, but pop music feeds me…my passion for music is greater than ever.”
