The skills assessment tests for the first session (June – July) of the 2026 national baccalaureate exam are held between June 8 and 17 according to the following calendar:

June 8 – 10: Evaluation of oral communication skills in Romanian (test A);

June 10 – 11: Assessment of oral communication skills in the mother tongue (test B);

June 11 – 12: Assessment of language skills in an internationally spoken language (test C);

June 15 – 17: Assessment of digital skills (test D).

The Ministry of Education reports that more than 130,000 candidates (high school graduates from the current and previous classes) are expected to take the exam in the first session.

Exams A and B from the baccalaureate assess oral communication skills in Romanian and in the mother tongue. Candidates are examined by two teachers, who independently establish the level of competence based on a grid that aims at understanding a written text and the ability to support different types of oral speeches (descriptive, informative, narrative or argumentative).

The results are not expressed by grades, but by three levels of proficiency: average user, advanced user and experienced user.

If teachers award different levels, special rules apply for determining the final result.

Candidates cannot change the exam ticket and those who refuse to answer the questions are considered absent from the test. The exam tickets are developed by the National Center for Curriculum and Assessment and are not made public, except for the official models published for preparation.

Students with disabilities may also benefit from special conditions, including additional time to prepare and support the answer.

Also, candidates are not allowed to bring mobile phones, headphones, electronic devices or other materials into the exam rooms that could facilitate communication or solving the subjects. Violation of these rules will result in removal from the exam, regardless of whether the items in question were used or not. All trials are monitored and audio-video recorded.
