Huge tensions in the Egypt camp before the duel with Australia in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. An altercation broke out in the hotel where the African delegation is staying, after the intervention of law enforcement against some supporters who were trying to get autographs and photos from the players.
According to the Spanish publication AS, the incident started when several fans approached the members of the Egyptian delegation in the hotel lobby. The police present at the scene intervened to remove the supporters, and the situation degenerated after the selector Hossam Hassan showed his displeasure with the way a child was prevented from taking pictures with the footballers.
Following the exchange of remarks, a conflict broke out between the representatives of Egypt and the police officers, during which there were fights and altercations, according to the quoted source.
Despite the incident, Egypt are preparing for the game against Australia, scheduled for Friday at 9:00 p.m. The winning team will meet the winner of the match between Argentina and Cape Verde in the round of 16.
