Acting Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu stated that President Nicușor Dan “he made a mistake, probably influenced by some information he had from inside the PNL” when he appointed Adrian Veștea to form the Government.
“I believe that the presidency is an extremely important institution and that Romania needs a credible institution. Nicușor Dan is a human being and I think we have to learn that. People are people no matter what position they occupy.
I think this is what we have to learn from all these experiences that presidents and prime ministers and ministers are also people who can make mistakes. It was probably a mistake from my perspective to nominate someone from a party without having a discussion with the leadership of that party,” said Oana Gheorghiu to Digi24.
At the same time, she drew attention to the fact that Romania is going through a deep crisis of confidence in public institutions and called for the reconstruction of their credibility.
About the reason why he joined the PNL
“I had also received the proposal, at some point, from Mr. Bolojan, if I wanted to join the PNL, but as I said then, I wanted to take my time, to think about it, to see if this is what I want to do in my remaining active years.
But I made the decision very quickly, I think in two days, because what happened in politics, the way Mr. Vestea’s nomination came, I looked at it as an injustice and as something, as an intrusion in this party, and it seemed to me that it was a moment when I really had to take a step and come alongside Mr. Bolojan”said the interim deputy prime minister.
Oana Gheorghiu states that she supports liberal and right-wing principles, as well as a minimal state intervention in the economy.
“I believe in I believe in liberal principles, I believe in right-wing principles, as we think or know them. I believe in as little state intervention in the economy as possible.
I think that everything we have now in state ownership is very badly managed and that it would be much better managed if we thought about some public-private partnerships or if we listed on the stock exchange. Of course, there are also things that lead me to the more social side, but I don’t think they are mutually exclusive”she added.
Asked about the accusations that her and Dragoș Pîslaru’s registration in the PNL “use” the party and that he comes from an area “neo-marxist”Gheorghiu answered: “I’ve heard these accusations. I’ve never felt like a neo-Marxist, or a Sororist, or a progressive.”
The PNL leadership plans to organize a new Congress in the coming period, most likely in August or September, after the court suspended the decisions taken at the June Congress, where the liberals changed the party’s statutes and elected their new leadership.
“There is the necessary majority in the decision-making forum which is the National Political Bureau and certainly in the near future another National Council and another Congress will be organized, another Statute will be adopted, which will probably have the same provisions as these, but which can no longer be so easily vulnerable through court applications (…). Things will move on”, said the leader of the PNL senators, Daniel Fenechiu.
