The Teleki Castle in Gornești reopens its doors to the public, after almost three years of restoration work. At the official opening, visitors will be able to participate in a guided tour and a series of events for all ages.
Teleki Castle in Gornești can be visited again starting July 16, after almost three years of restoration. Although public access will be allowed as early as Thursday, the official inauguration is scheduled for August 1, when the monument’s administration is preparing a series of events that will take place throughout the day.
Visitors will thus have the opportunity to discover the restored spaces and the museum during guided tours. Gorneşti Castle has 52 rooms and 365 windows, symbolizing each week and day of the year.
The program will also include a round table dedicated to the protection of historical monuments, the preservation of heritage and the role that the castle can have in the cultural life of the community, according to the announcement posted on the Facebook page of the historical objective.

On July 16, the famous carved gates of Teleki Castle in Gornești will reopen, and the spaces that have been closed for so long will once again reveal themselves to visitors. The August 1st event will feature activities for all ages. Those who prefer a challenge will be able to try a themed escape room, while children will enjoy creative workshops, art activities and a puppet show. The atmosphere will be completed by a recital by the pianist Cári Tibor and a performance by the Navarra Dance band.
On the same day, the 112 Coffee cafe, set up in the castle premises, will be inaugurated. In addition to coffee and soft drinks, the space aims to become a meeting place for the community and for the participants of the cultural events organized here.
The organizers will announce the full program of the inauguration in the next period.
The works lasted almost three years
Before the start of the restoration works, which lasted almost 3 years, the field from Gornești attracted visitors from all over the country. With the reopening, the castle administration expects even greater interest, including thanks to the promotion through the Castle Route, part of the “Attractive Romania” program.
Teleki Castle was built in the Baroque style between 1772 and 1803, after the estate came into the possession of Mihály Teleki in 1674. The property remained in the family’s heritage until 1949, when the communist regime nationalized it, and the castle was returned to the heirs in 2011.
The recently completed works, which took place over a period of almost three years, involved the replacement of the roof, the modernization of the heating, electricity, water supply and sewage systems, and the interventions on the structure were carried out exclusively through traditional restoration techniques, without invasive modern materials.
“Where we were able to preserve, for example, we have very beautiful oak doors, we have parts of the parquet that remain, we kept all the original elements, we did not put concrete inside, we restored and preserved. I think that all this is a very big step forward and I think that another 50 years this castle will live”, explained the Teleki Castle administrators.
