A Romanian tourist wanted to know if the system of sunbeds offered against consumption in Thassos is worth it. He went to a bar in Potos, where he found places in the sun and in the shade, and the group of six ended up consuming 81 euros in less than four hours.
“Today I wanted to do an experiment. But let me give some explanations to those who might need it – about the free sunbeds on the beaches of Thassos, against consumption. I came to one of my favorite bars in Potos around 10:30“, wrote the Romanian tourist on Forum Thasos.
Even in these conditions, the group found sunbeds available and could choose between places in the sun or shade. “Deckchairs of your choice, more in the sun or more in the shade, on the busiest day of the year.” the Romanian told.
What the party of six ordered
For the four adults and two children, the consumption consisted of several drinks and food. Tourists ordered two waters, two freddo cappuccinos, two beers, one cocktail, two coffees and two juices. Pizza, club sandwich and chicken tortilla were added to these. The note was closed before 2 p.m.

“Before 2 p.m. I closed the bill: 81 euros for everything, 4 adults and 2 children,” said the tourist.
According to him, the amount had already far exceeded the minimum consumption required for the lounge chairs provided by the bar. The group was going to stay on the beach and there was an opportunity to order other products.
“So we have far exceeded the minimum consumption and there is a good chance that we will have something more before we leave. It is not difficult to consume, if you also take drinks and something to eat, in a few hours”the Romanian explained.
He also says that the offer of bars on the beaches of Thassos has diversified in recent years, so that tourists can also order food, not just drinks.
“Because in recent years most bars also have some food,” he added.
What they got in exchange for consumption
In addition to the ordered products, the group benefited from sunbeds and the facilities offered by the bar. The tourist says the experience included coffee, cold drinks, food, shade and toilet access.
“I had: hot coffee, cold beer, very good food, shade, access to the toilet, smooth entrance with sand, very pleasant atmosphere. Without paying a sunbed fee and only paying for what we consumed,” emphasized the Romanian.
In his opinion, this is a natural way for tourists to support the business that develops and maintains the beach area, while enjoying the convenience.
“This is the “natural” way to give something back to the business set up on the beach, so that we can have comfort and a very pleasant experience.” he explained.
Sunbeds are not free everywhere
However, the tourist points out that his experience does not mean that all beaches in Thassos offer sunbeds under the same conditions.
“Of course, there is also the option of paying a sunbed rental fee, depending on which you get a drink or not”the Romanian specified.
