Former Arsenal striker Fabian Caballero has died at the age of 46. The Paraguayan footballer, nicknamed ‘Tyson’ for his combative style, collapsed suddenly while playing futsal with friends in his native capital, Asuncion.

The Paraguayan Football Federation sent a message of condolences through a statement: “The Paraguayan Football Association deeply regrets the passing of former footballer Fabián Caballero, who had an outstanding career both in Paraguayan football and abroad. We are with family and friends in these difficult moments”.
Caballero was brought to Arsenal by Arsène Wenger in 1998 to join a squad that included the likes of Nicolas Anelka, Nwankwo Kanu and Dennis Bergkamp, but failed to garner many game minutes. He played just three games for the “Tunari” before returning to Paraguay, where he signed with Atletico Tembetary, informs the Standard.
“Everyone at the club is deeply saddened by the news of the sudden passing of our former player Fabian Caballero”it is stated in an official statement from the Arsenal club. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.” the club also sent.
After his return to Paraguay, Caballero returned to the UK two years later, signing for Dundee, where he spent five seasons.
The Scottish club also sent a message of condolences: “Everyone at Dundee Football Club is extremely shocked and saddened by the news of the passing of our former player, Fabian Caballero. Fabian passed on at the age of 46 and will be deeply missed by everyone at the club. Fabian signed for Dundee in July 2000 and quickly became a fan favourite.”
