USR President, Dominic Fritz, asks the Minister of Justice to dismiss the head of DNA, Marius Voineag, after the Recorder documentary about the state of justice.
“The revolt born by the Recorder documentary must reach the Parliament and tear down the pyramidal system of control of magistrates and files. The stake is the rewriting of the laws of justice. The laws in force are the result of a dirty bargain between politicians and some obedient people from the Justice, a deeply immoral and anti-democratic arrangement
They wanted to end the anti-corruption fight, which threatened their freedom and stolen assets. And they succeeded. , damages of tens of millions of euros are erased. We know who allowed the exchange: Klaus Iohannis. We know who legitimized him by voting: MPs from PSD and PNL. And we also know who the executors are, from both camps. The USR opposed it from the beginning. Stelian Ion, the USR Minister of Justice, was dismissed then because he was not willing to continue the work of destroying the independence of the Justice started by Liviu Dragnea. USR was then removed from the government and others more cooperative were found”, claims Fritz.
The President of the USR asks the Minister of Justice to initiate the dismissal procedure for Marius Voineag, the head of the DNA.
Fritz also says that the Ministry of Justice “They urgently need to do an independent audit on the random allocation of files“, and all judicial promotions should be “made by competition, not by looting as now”.
“Judiciary corruption competence back to the DNA! I invite the prime minister and PNL president, Ilie Bolojan, and the other partners in government to support us in these efforts. In a captured justice system, no one is safe, neither me nor any litigant. Having a pending case is Russian roulette. Politicians can fix the laws of justice so that all citizens have access to a truly independent justice, which takes its anti-corruption mission seriously”says Dominic Fritz.
The head of the ICCJ, Lia Savonea, denounced “the persistent campaign to delegitimize some justice leaders, built on anonymous statements and accusations presented as truths, without being supported by verified facts”noting that the situation of the judicial system “it is serious and cannot be ignored”.
President Nicusor Dan stated that he had seen the Recorder documentary about the judiciary “head-to-tail” and that he started working on a report with data about the problems in the system, inviting all the magistrates to write to him directly about the problems they encounter and stressing that there is also a need for an assumption within the profession. “The easiest thing is to revolt, once again, and throw the blame generically, but it is more difficult to solve the problems in justice”, Nicusor Dan also said.
For his part, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said that he will study what appears in the documentary, announcing that he will do an analysis with the team of legal advisers, with those from the Ministry of Justice and will try a dialogue with the associations of magistrates. He added that if they were very united and very vocal in terms of salary rights, retirement, he thinks it would be at least necessary for them to be at least as determined and to attack these problems from within.
The failure of USR at the Capital City Hall
The debates in the public space regarding justice are exploited by the USR, being useful for maintaining the electorate in the conditions in which the formation obtained a poor score in the elections for the Capital City Hall on Sunday. Cătălin Drula, the candidate of the formation, was voted by 13.9% of those who came to the polls, being ranked 4th, after Anca Alexandrescu and Daniel Baluțǎ.
“It is very easy to throw stones at the one who lost, but democracy depends on people who take such steps. The result of our candidate was disappointing, we lost a battle, we could have done more. It is clear that the reformist pool voted for Ciucu, it is clear that he has experience, I think it was a useful vote, but also against the extremist candidate”, Fritz explained the failure, announcing an analysis in the party.
Dominic Fritz took over the management of USR after the removal of Elena Lasconi. The leader of the party, a German citizen, also obtained Romanian citizenship last month.
“Romania, ready, I’m one of yours! I passed the interview test and received a positive approval for obtaining Romanian citizenship. Thank you, Romania, for welcoming me into your home 22 years ago. You made me an adult, you made me European, you made me tougher, warmer, more inventive. And now you made me Romanian with the right documents”wrote Dominic Fritz on Facebook.
