The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, met on Saturday, October 18, in Washington DC, with Antonella Bassani, the vice-president of the World Bank, during an official meeting dedicated to the development of the health system in Romania. The meeting took place in the presence of representatives from the World Bank management, both from the global level and from the institution’s regional offices in Romania and Europe.
Alexandru Nazare, the Minister of Finance, also participated in the discussions, a sign that the joint projects between Romania and the World Bank aim not only at the medical sector, but also at an integrated financial approach for the ongoing reforms.
“We discussed the continuation of the process of resettlement of medical services, the way in which services to hospitals are settled, but also the digitization of the medical system and the acceleration of investments in infrastructure. The objective is clear: patients have access to modern treatments, and doctors to the latest generation technology”. wrote Alexandru Rogobete in a message posted on Facebook.
The Romanian official presented the Washington partners with the status of the projects carried out in collaboration with the World Bank, including the Timișoara Burns Center, which is in the final phase of execution, the Târgu Mureș center, which is to be inaugurated at the beginning of next year, as well as the Center for children with severe burns at the “Grigore Alexandrescu” Hospital in Bucharest, scheduled to be completed in 2026.
Rogobete also announced the intention to build a new Burns Hospital for adults in the Capital, a major project under preparation, which will complete the national network of units specialized in the treatment of patients with severe burns.
“I strongly believe that the close partnership between Romania, the World Bank and the United States of America is strategic and essential for the development of our health system”, emphasized the minister.
During the discussions, they also talked about strengthening Romania’s response capacity to medical emergencies, by increasing the number of fully equipped ATI beds and integrating technologies that increase patient safety.
“Trust is good for us, especially when we can put real projects on the table of our partners, not just plans on paper – projects that happen, here and now”, concluded Alexandru Rogobete.
