Hungarian sport is in mourning after the sudden death of Mikloș Dudaș, former world champion in kayak-canoeing. The tragic news of the athlete’s death, aged 34, was confirmed by a source close to the family and later by the authorities.
According to information published in the Hungarian press, the Budapest police intervened on Monday, January 5, 2026, in a residential complex in the capital. Access to the building was restricted and the entire block was cordoned off during investigations.
In an official statement, the Budapest Police said: “A 34-year-old man was found dead in an apartment in sector 18 at around 11:22. A procedure was started to clarify the circumstances of the death“.
Later, the publications index.hu and borsonline.hu confirmed that the victim is Mikloș Dudaș, former world champion in kayak-canoeing. The athlete was found dead in his apartment, located on the second floor of the building. Authorities have not yet released details about the cause or exact time of death.
Mikloș Dudaș experienced the peak of his career in 2014, when he became world champion in the relay. Throughout his career, the Hungarian athlete also obtained: two bronze medals at the World Championships and one silver and one bronze medal at the European Championships
Dudaș also won a medal at the European Games, but it was later withdrawn following a positive anti-doping test, an episode that affected his sports career.
