Brigitte Bardot, French actress and animal rights activist, has died at the age of 91. In recent months, the star has made his son Nicolas-Jacques Charrier promise never to speak about him in public again, trying to end a decades-long conflict.
The actress made a promise to her son Nicolas-Jacques Charrier before she died, after admitting throughout her life that she never accepted motherhood.
“I promised Nicolas that I would never talk about him in interviews again”she confessed in an interview with Paris Match, published in June 2024.
Brigitte Bardot gave birth to her son in 1960, during her marriage to actor Jacques Charrier, with whom she also starred in the film Babette Goes to War. In her memoirs, the actress described the pregnancy as “the greatest tragedy”.
“I was looking in the mirror at my flat, thin stomach, like a dear friend about whom I was going to close a coffin lid.” the actress told, according to dailymail.
After the divorce from Jacques in 1962, Nicolas had very little contact with his mother due to her harsh remarks. He later sued her for defamatory statements and failure to pay child support.
Nicolas, 65, is currently a businessman and founder of the children’s brand Choupette with his wife, Norwegian model Anne-Line Bjerkan. The two have two daughters, Théa and Anna, and are grandparents of three.
In an interview last year with Le Point, Brigitte revealed that she has two nieces and three great-grandchildren.
“Yes, I am the great-grandmother of three small Norwegian children who do not speak French and whom I see very rarely.” she explained.
In recent months, the star suffered from health problems, being frequently hospitalized. In October, she was forced to issue a statement to deny a rumor of his death.
“I don’t know who the idiot is that started this fake news about me disappearing tonight, but please know that I’m fine and have no intention of retiring. A word of wisdom.” said the actress.
After three weeks of treatment for an undisclosed condition, Brigitte Bardot returned to her home in Saint-Tropez.
The actress was married and divorced three times before settling down with Bernard d’Ormale in 1992, and retired from cinema in 1973 to devote herself to animal activism.
Although she attracted controversy for her involvement in far-right politics, supporting Rassemblement National leader Marine Le Pen and being fined six times for inciting racial hatred, in recent years Brigitte has chosen to live in seclusion, preferring the privacy of her property in Saint-Tropez.
