Ventura County prosecutors charged Spears with felony driving under the influence.
Britney Spears, who is currently in rehab, is set to be arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office.
However, it remains uncertain whether the star will appear in court herself. Because it is a misdemeanor charge, Spears is not required to appear, and her lawyer could appear in her place, writes the Daily Mail.
Britney Spears will be fined for “reckless driving”, which allows her to plead guilty to reckless driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Plea bargaining is reserved for defendants with no history of driving under the influence of alcohol, persons with a low blood alcohol level, when there are no personal injuries or accidents, and when the subject exhibits “personal motivation to address underlying problems through rehabilitation or a drug and alcohol program’.
The pop star was pulled over on the evening of March 4 by the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County after multiple 911 calls.
The singer, who was recently seen driving and acting erratically, was released the next morning, according to Ventura County sheriff’s records.
Spears’ reps released a statement: “This was an unfortunate, unforgivable incident. Britney will take the right steps and abide by the law and we hope this can be the first step towards the long overdue change that needs to happen in Britney’s life. Her car was towed and impounded by Roy’s Towing in Thousand Oaks, California.
An eventful past with the police
