In the last 35 years, the private sector has firmly supported Romania’s integration into the European Union and alignment with Western values, according to an open letter signed by the seven organizations: AmCham Romania – American Chamber of Commerce in Romania, AHK – Chamber of Commerce and Romanian-German Industry, AOAR – Association of Romanian Businessmen, BEROCC – Chamber of Commerce Belgium Luxembourg – Romania Moldova, BRCC – British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce, Concordia – Concordia Employers Confederation and RBL – Romanian Business Leaders Foundation.
“On behalf of the business community, I have shown every time the slippages that risked moving Romania away from those principles on which our safety and prosperity depend. The economic reality makes the benefits of being a member state of the European Union undeniable. Romania’s GDP has increased more than 14 times in the last 30 years. European funds have modernized Romania and private investments have created jobs for Romanians and resources for communities, and Romanians can move freely, work and study anywhere in Europe. We all have the responsibility to preserve Romania’s western path and to be aware of the dangers to which the country is exposed, especially in the current geopolitical context”, specify the call.
“It’s our generation’s duty”
The call comes in the context of the results of the first round of the 2024 presidential elections and fears related to the risk of Romania entering the darkest period of its post-December history.
The seven business organizations emphasize that the achievements of the last 35 years must be protected.
“It is the duty of our generation that the decisions of December 2024 reconfirm the decisions of December 1989: democratic Romania, EU member, NATO ally, towards the OECD, facing the future”the open letter states.
