“In one of the schools in the commune where I am a family doctor, there is a confirmed case of meningococcal meningitis, a disease caused by a bacterium called Neisseria Meningitidis (meningococcus). This disease can kill a man in 48 hours. People at risk: young children under 4 years old, teenagers, the elderly, as well as those who work in risky professions (doctors) or some immunocompromised people.“, stated Sandra Alexiu, the president of the Association of Family Doctors from Bucharest and Ilfov on Facebook.
Even if the vaccine is settled for certain categories of people, such as “those at risk and elderly over 65 years”, the rest of the people can buy it.
“They’re not cheap, but they protect you from death (in pain and in a very short time). For people in contact with the confirmed case, prophylaxis is done with certain antibiotics for a short period of time. The antibiotic is administered only with a prescription issued by a doctor. Today I gave only one prescription, although I notified the parents… From that class no child was vaccinated with the available vaccines… If we don’t wake up from this unconsciousness that is decimating our children, we will have whole generations shortened from an early age .”added the family doctor.
How much does the vaccine cost?6 packs of cigarettes or a session of semi-permanent nails with breezes“, the doctor also said.
Meningitis is an infection of the membranes that protect the brain and spinal cord. If it is not treated quickly, the disease can evolve unpredictably, and in severe forms it can lead to septicemia or even death. Meningococcal meningitis is transmitted by a bacterium.
“Bacterial meningitis, in general, has a more serious clinical course than viral ones.”, previously explained the vice-president of the Romanian Society of Epidemiology, Dr. Emilian Popovici, r for “The truth”.
