Cash prizes for excellence. What sums will the Government grant to graduates who obtained an average of 10 in the National Assessment and the Baccalaureate

The government has decided to grant financial incentives to graduates who achieved exceptional results in this year’s national exams. Thus, students who completed the VIIIth grade with an average of 10 in the National Assessment will receive 2,000 lei each, and high school graduates who obtained an average of 10 in the Baccalaureate exam will benefit from a financial support of 5,000 lei.

The decision was adopted on Thursday, December 18, in the Government meeting, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education and Research.

The measure targets both students who took the National Assessment in the 2025 session, as well as graduates who obtained the maximum average at the Baccalaureate, in the special session and in the session of June 2025.

According to official data, this summer, 42 high school graduates obtained an average of 10 in the Baccalaureate — 32 in the June 2025 session, one in the special session and nine in the German Baccalaureate.

Also, 85 8th grade graduates managed to obtain the maximum average in the National Assessment.

The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, said that the support given to high-achieving students comes in a difficult economic context, but the decision is a good one.

“I’m glad that, although the country is still under the effect of fiscal-budgetary measures, I found openness on the part of the Government for this support of exceptional young people”, said the minister.

He added that the education system has overcome the most difficult period from a fiscal-budgetary point of view and is now in a stage of stabilization and growth, after the implementation of important reforms and measures that allowed the maintenance of salaries and scholarships in 2025.

Daniel David also specified that the granting of these financial incentives follows other recent initiatives, such as awarding Romanian Olympians at international competitions and supplementing the scholarship fund for students through European funds.
