Céline Dion is a five-time Grammy Award winner and one of the most beloved international stars. Aged 56, the artist was diagnosed in 2022 with a rare autoimmune and neurological disorder called stiff-persona syndrome. It is a rare neurological disorder that affects the body's mobility and flexibility.
The beloved artist told People that her health problems began in the year 2,000. He had muscle spasms, difficulty breathing and difficulty moving. At that time she was not yet diagnosed. The symptoms got worse as the years went by.
“At one point, I could barely walk and I really missed living. My kids started to notice. I thought to myself, “Okay, they've already lost a parent. I don't want them to be scared. (…) I let them know. You've lost your father, but your mother has a condition and it's different.” I will not die. It's something I'll learn to live with”said the artist, according to People.
According to Click!, to combat the effects of the syndrome, Céline dedicates herself to an intensive training program, performing specific exercises for five days a week. Together with a team of specialists, she works tirelessly to regain her mobility and return to the stage, the place where she truly feels at home.
On 25 June 2024, Prime Video announced that it would air a feature-length documentary about her illness: “I Am: Celine Dion”directed by Irene Taylor who was nominated for an Oscar for her 2009 film “The Final Inch”.
