A hotel in the Lion City is taking a bet to make sure the rain doesn't spoil its guests' vacations, CNN writes.
It rains on average 171 days a year in Singapore. Thus was born the concept of a rain insurance package. InterContinental Singapore Hotel's 'Rain Resist Bliss' package will refund one night of guests' stay if one of their planned activities ends up being canceled by rain.
“I was talking to a group of friends about what's next for luxury travel and one of them jokingly commented that being able to guarantee good weather would be the next level of ultimate luxury travel.” the hotel's general manager, Andreas Kraemer, told CNN. From there the concept of a rain insurance package was born.
However, InterContinental won't be giving away money every time it rains. The criterion is met when “duration of rain exceeds 120 cumulative minutes at any 4-hour daytime location.”
Also, the package only applies to people staying in the suites, which start at SGD 850 ($633) per night for the junior suites and start at SGD 4,500 ($3,349) for the presidential suite.
The money comes in the form of a voucher, which must be spent at the InterContinental Singapore within a week, and the amount customers receive is equivalent to one night's stay in the room category they booked.
During this time, tourists can visit the Museum of Asian Civilizations, tour the Tiger Brewery and shop at the local outpost of Japanese bookstore Kinokuniya.
