The Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, commented on the scenario regarding the appointment of a technocrat prime minister in the event of a change of Government, excluding two names circulated.
The mayor of the capital and first vice-president of the PNL, Ciprian Ciucu, commented on Sunday, on Antena 3 CNN, the discussions in the public space regarding the possibility of President Nicușor Dan appointing a technocrat prime minister, in the event that the current Executive led by Ilie Bolojan would be dismissed following the censure motion scheduled for the vote on May 5.
We remind you of the main four names circulated in the public space as potential candidates for the prime minister’s seat, from the position of technocrats: Anca Dragu (governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Moldova, no), Șerban Matei (director of the International Relations Department of the National Bank of Romania, no), Radu Burnete, the adviser to the president, and Dragoș Pîslaru, who now appears as a minister in a position of the PNL.
In this context, Ciprian Ciucu categorically rejected two of these options, stating that Dragoș Pîslaru is definitely not in this scenario. He stated that he spoke directly with him, and his position is that such a government could repeat the experience of a previous technocrat executive (Cioloş Government – no), which was strongly contested politically.
“Dragoș Pîslaru certainly won’t be. I spoke with him personally and he doesn’t believe in such a scenario, which would be very similar to the Cioloș government, which was “bobbed”, so to speak, by the Social Democratic Party. We don’t believe in their good intentions”. stated Ciucu, suggesting that such an executive would be vulnerable in the current political climate.
As for other names circulated, the mayor was reserved. About Anca Dragu, he said that it is hard for him to believe in such a variant, and about the other possible candidates, he said that he does not have enough information to comment.
“I don’t know about Mrs. Dragu, but it would be hard for me to believe, and I don’t know about the other two, so I can’t comment.” stated Ciprian Ciucu.
At the same time, the liberal leader nuanced the idea of ”technocrat”, arguing that in reality there are politicians who, although they have experience in public life, behave more like technocrats in the exercise of the executive function.
In this sense, he pointed to Ilie Bolojan as an example, appreciating that his governing style is one oriented towards administrative efficiency, even if this attracts criticism even within the party.
“The one who, although he is an old politician, behaves in the government like a technocrat, is Ilie Bolojan himself. And this is a lot of criticism, including in the party: that he behaves more like a technocrat than a politician. This is the technocrat”. he stated.
Asked if, in the event of the fall of the Government, he would like the president to propose Ilie Bolojan again for the position of prime minister, Ciprian Ciucu avoided a decisive answer.
“I didn’t think of that,” he said shortly.
