Dominic Fritz announced his candidacy for the head of the USR, pleading for a centrist party, representing the diversity of Romania and winning the elections. He also clarified the legal aspects related to his citizenship, stating that his right has already been tested in court.

Dominic Fritz, the mayor of Timisoara, officially announced his candidacy for the USR presidency, stressing that he wants to turn the party from a “The niche party, of the Great Urban, in the most important political force of Romania”according to an internal message that came into possession of the truth.
“I entered a political context in which USR has the chance to become the main party in Romania. I wish to be part of this road and that is why I run for the USR Presidency.”Dominic Fritz said.
It proposes a strategic reset of the USR, stating that the party must position itself as a centrist formation, which “It addresses politically, through communication and solutions, to the great, small and rural urban.” He believes that this political center is “That new political axis of Romania”which rejects “The feudal type policy practiced by the classic parties” and “radical and irresponsible populism”.
“Nicușor Dan won with a central, pragmatic and unifying election strategy, without giving up his values. It is what we did to win the mayors in cities and common.”explained Fritz, referring to the recent success of the former mayor.
Against the background of speculation regarding the legality of his candidacy due to Romanian citizenship, Dominic Fritz offered a firm clarification: “The Romanian legislation gives me the right to be a member of a political party, and implicitly to lead it, and this right has already been tested in court, on the occasion of my appeals to the City Hall of Timisoara in 2020 and in 2024.”
He added that “For a year I have been part of the USR leadership” and that “obtaining citizenship, which I want so much, is only a bureaucratic issue, with the file submitted for a year and with all the conditions fulfilled.”
In his message, Fritz also pointed out the need for USR to open to a diverse society: “Let us not be afraid of our diversity and to uniform ourselves, but to use it as an internal cohesion and opening resource.”
He ended his message with a call to unity and responsibility: “I will not be an always convenient president, but I promise you that I will be a president who will always put the interest of the party, in all its diversity, in the first place.”
