The Ministry of Health on Saturday requested all structures in the medical system to activate intervention plans to reduce the risks generated by extreme temperatures, after meteorologists issued a Red Heat Warning for Sunday and Monday, valid in 16 counties.
The rest of the country is under Code Yellow and Code Orange, which means that three quarters of Romania will be affected by the heat wave.
The measures required by the Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health asks the medical services to take immediate measures to cope with the increase in the number of requests and to prevent incidents caused by very high temperatures:
“Ambulance services – alerting crews and supplementing them, where the number of requests is increasing. Public health directorates – verification of the conditions for providing medical assistance in health facilities (stocks of emergency medicines, especially medicines for pathologies determined/aggravated by the heat wave, human resources)”.
The Ministry sends a firm message to the population:

“Listen to the advice of doctors and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, dehydration and outdoor activities that require high energy consumption.”

The warnings come as thermometers can soar to 41 degrees in the shade, but temperatures can exceed 45 degrees Celsius in some regions, and medical risks, from heatstroke to worsening chronic diseases, are rising significantly.
