Fair play ranking stake at Euro 2024: what it means and where it has already been used

Euro 2024 has scheduled two boring matches on Tuesday with a sleeping pill effect, as the Truth showed here. If the show was missing on the field, in the last stage of group C, instead, here we encountered a special situation, as it rarely existed at this level.

In fact, Denmark and Slovenia were tied for all intents and purposes after the completion of their group C matches. And yet, the Nordic national team finished in 2nd place and Slovenia in 3rd. How was the tie? Through the fair play ranking. This hierarchy takes into account cards “yellow” and “tomatoesreceived by each national team.

According to UEFA regulations, a “yellow” brings -1 point, while a “Red” brings -3 points. The worst case scenario would be the following: a player would first receive a “yellow” and then take directly “Red“. In this case, his national team would accumulate -4 points in the fair-play ranking!

Returning to the situation in group C, with Denmark and Slovenia in the foreground, they received the following cards for Euro 2024, in the group stage:

*Denmark – a “yellow” in the first match / three “yellow” in match two / two “yellow” in the last stage. Total score in the fair play ranking: -6

*Slovenia – threeyellow” in the first match / 2 “yellow” in the second match / 2 “yellow” in the last stage. Total score in the fair play ranking: -7

So, the difference between Denmark and Slovenia was made thanks to one caveat!
