Jermaine Jenas has been sacked and will no longer host ‘Match of the Day’ and ‘The One Show’ following complaints of his ‘inappropriate behaviour’. The BBC has confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the matter “allegations involving digital communications such as texting”, that his colleague Jermaine Jenas would have received from him a few weeks ago.
The former footballer replied, according to The Sun: “Right now I can’t talk about it. I can tell you I’m not happy. There are two sides to every story and I will be talking to my lawyers about this.”. Married with four children, he last presented The One Show on July 22 last season. Jermaine Jenas was absent from the first episode of the new season, which aired last Saturday.
Nightmare for the BBC
“This is an absolute nightmare for the BBC. Complaints have been made about Jermaine’s behaviour. After some immediate routine investigations, the decision was made to remove him from the show and terminate his contract. The BBC’s new director of sport, Alex Kay-Jelski, has been heavily involved in the process and is adamant that there must be no skeletons in his new home. At present the feeling is that he will not be returning to the BBC”revealed a source of the aforementioned publication.
A BBC spokesperson has confirmed that Jermaine Jenas will no longer be seen on their television station. “We can confirm that Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of the presentation line-up”he transmitted. Earlier this month, the BBC’s board of directors issued a statement announcing changes to its employee conduct rules and practices.
The BBC creates a healthy workplace culture
“We remain concerned about the potential for inappropriate behavior in the workplace, particularly in creative and publishing environments. While the challenges of power imbalances in the workplace are a challenge for many employers, the BBC must adhere to the highest standards.
The BBC has clearly articulated values and a strong code of conduct and much progress has been made in recent years. That said, the board will commission an independent review which will make recommendations on practical steps that could strengthen a workplace culture in line with the BBC’s values.”the British sent in a statement.
