Fish with parasitic larvae withdrawn from sale by DSVSA

The authorities in Buzău have withdrawn hundreds of kilograms of food products from sale, after the checks carried out revealed the presence of parasitic larvae and other non-conformities regarding the quality and labeling of the products.

The inspectors of the Sanitary-Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) Buzău withdrew more than 600 kilograms of fish from sale, following checks that revealed the presence of parasitic larvae, as well as other non-compliant products, according to a statement sent by the institution.

According to DSVSA Buzău, in October, controls were carried out at 421 economic operators, on the entire chain from production to marketing, targeting aspects such as compliance with general hygiene conditions, traceability requirements or the labeling of food products.

“Following the controls, the following non-conformities were found: structural deficiencies, lack of health checks, lack of temperature monitoring in cold storage areas, deficiencies in labelling, storage and handling of food products. As a result of these non-conformities, 11 contravention fines totaling 56,600 lei and 28 warnings were issued”. it is stated in the press release of DSVSA Buzău.

The institution took more than 280 samples of food products to check their compliance with the legal provisions.

“During the same period, DSVSA Buzău intervened to resolve eight non-conformity notifications received through the Administrative Assistance and Cooperation System and 610 kilograms of hake trunks were withdrawn from the market due to the detection of Anisakis spp. larvae and 90 kilograms of fish with non-compliant protein/water ratio” the cited source reported.

In the same period, the institution also resolved three food alerts received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed.
