The students who obtained medals, prizes or mentions at the international Olympics were awarded today by the Ministry of Education, in a gala organized at the National Children’s Palace. In total, 157 students from Bucharest and 29 counties were rewarded for their merits. The teachers who trained them and the school units also received awards.
Historic performances for Romania
The 157 students obtained 206 medals, awards and mentions at 35 international Olympiads and regional Olympiads or competitions. Of these, 14 Olympiads were at the world level and 21 at the European regional level, the Ministry of Education announces. Classified by subjects of study, they look like this:
- 4 Olympiads for the Language and Communication curriculum area;
- 12 Olympiads for the curriculum area Mathematics and natural sciences;
- 3 Olympiads for the curriculum area Man and society;
- 10 Olympiads for the curricular area Technologies;
- 6 Olympiads held in inter/transdisciplinary fields.
Historic performances for Romania were achieved by the students who participated in the international mathematics, informatics and astronomy olympiads, with 16 medals in total. Of these:
- 4 absolute gold medals (4 students) at the Mathematics Balkaniad for Juniors and the International Olympiad of Astronomy and Astrophysics for Juniors;
- 4 gold medals (2 students each) at the International Mathematics Olympiad and the Mathematics Balkaniad for Seniors;
- 4 gold medals (4 students) at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad for Seniors;
- 4 gold medals (4 students) at the International Informatics Olympiad.
What prizes did the Olympians receive from the Romanian state. 20,000 lei, the largest amount
For their performances, the students were awarded by the Ministry of Education with diplomas, but also with money.
Prize amounts for international Olympians are as follows:
- 20,000 lei – absolute first prize (with maximum score), 15,000 lei – first prize/gold medal,
- 12,500 lei – 2nd prize/silver medal, 10,000 lei – 3rd prize/bronze medal
- 6,000 lei – mention (or equivalent diplomas).
The sums of money awarded to the students who won in the regional/Balkan competitions (seniors and juniors) are:
- 10,000 lei first prize/gold medal with absolute score;
- 7500 lei – first prize/gold medal, 6000 lei – second prize/silver medal,
- 5000 lei – third prize/bronze medal
- 3000 lei – mention (or equivalent diplomas)
The teachers who trained them, rewarded in turn
For the teachers who trained several Olympic students, a single financial incentive was granted, in the largest amount provided for one of the awarded students.
In the situation where the awarded student was trained by two or more teachers, the financial incentive was awarded in equal parts to the teachers who helped the performance.
And the schools of origin (72 state and private pre-university education units) were financially rewarded, in the amount provided for each awarded student. The received incentives, announces the Ministry of Education, will be used for endowments intended to support the quality of the education process, directed, with priority, to the discipline or disciplines in which school performances were obtained.
