Grindeanu accuses Bolojan of wanting to advertise himself by making statements about the “rats in the pantry”: “Why didn’t you come out and say them publicly, by name?”

PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, commented on Prime Minister Bolojan’s statements related to “rodents in the pantry”, the metaphor used to describe the economic and administrative situation of the state. Grindeanu accuses Bolojan of only advertising himself, because no concrete measures were taken to combat the situation.

The social democrat launched harsh criticism of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, following his statements about waste in state companies.

Grindeanu claimed that, in the last 10 months, Romanians “have only seen cuts”, and these measures would have contributed to the emergence of economic crises. The social-democratic leader accused, at the same time, that the PSD was treated from the beginning as a political opponent within the government.

“Who patented the idea of being in government, but at the same time disagreeing with the measures? Even them, from the beginning, because PSD was seen as a political opponent”, said Grindeanu, on Sunday evening, at Antena 3 CNN.

He asked the prime minister for concrete explanations regarding the accusations related to the waste in the public system. Grindeanu also criticized the initiative to list profitable state companies on the stock exchange, stating that such a decision would be equivalent to “sale of the whole pantry”:

“If you found rats, how many complaints did you make? If you found leaks in the state budget, why didn’t you come out and say them publicly, by name? Why did you think for the last hundred meters to sell the profitable companies? You then sell that pantry with rats. You sell the pantry completely. It’s a pure image what happened now. Why didn’t he go, make complaints, go on TV, say: “I found at the company… rat X, Y, Z”? Otherwise, all things remain just PR. Some may still believe such approaches.”

We remind you that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan compared waste in state-owned companies to “some rats gnawing the supplies in the pantry”. claiming that he began to “turn on the light” on problems in the system.

“I have disturbed quite a few people. The looting of the state budget is done in many ways. If a state bank gives non-performing loans, like Eximbank, the money is no longer recovered. We limited that. (…) Think that in the pantry, the one that the householder has, when you open the door, you see that you have some mice, some rats that are like rodents, that eat your food and, very plastic, you know, I lit the light bulbs, that’s as clear as can be,” explained the prime minister on Friday, during a show.
