Irinel Columbeanu suffers from a disease that he initially did not want to accept. His daughter, Irina, who lives in the US, revealed to the journalists there that her father has Alzheimer’s, and for this reason she looks at podcasts about health and reads medical journals.

The biggest achievement I am proud of comes from one of my most painful experiences. I grew up in Romania with dads, being indistinguishable. He took care of me how long it was financially possible, but at 11 years old I had to move to the US with my mother. Due to the lack of resources and the absence of a Green Card, we have not seen each other for five years. I was talking on the phone, and the time seemed to be sitting. When we gathered, my joy was shaded by the unexpected confrontation with my father’s damaged health. His shoulders were roared, slow movements. He forgot recent things, wandered his objects and confused himself in words.

Alarmed, I started reading medical journals and listening to podcasts about health after he fell asleep, trying to understand what was happening to him. As I was studying, I became convinced that it was symptoms of Alzheimer’s with early onset. After months of requests to seek medical help for a problem that he refuses to accept, the diagnosis has been confirmed. This lit an unmatched passion in me.

I contacted Dr. Newton Howard, a former teacher at Georgetown, who had found a company focused on using Wireless implants for treating Alzheimer’s. Studying transcranial stimulation with direct current (TDCS), I was fascinated by how electric currents can stimulate neuroplasticity and slow down cognitive decline. The idea that a simple, cheap and minimally invasive technology could treat my father and could revolutionize global health deeply inspired me. I plan to continue to cultivate this passion in faculty to medicine, but also further“, Irina Columbeanu told Shoutout at.

At his last visit to Romania, this year, Irina said that Irinel Columbeanu represents her responsibility, given that she is his daughter and loves him unconditionally.

The pension that Irinel Columbeanu receives is only 2,000 lei, and the amount is insufficient to cover the expenses he has.
