Oscar-nominated actress Teri Garr, best known for her roles in “Young Frankenstein” and “Tootsie,” has died at the age of 79 after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. The actress’ health problems, including multiple sclerosis, have worsened recently.

According to Reuters, the announcement was made by the actress’ manager. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2002, Garr battled the disease for years until, in 2007, she underwent major surgery for a brain aneurysm. Teri Ann Garr, born in 1944 in Lakewood, Ohio, inherited her passion for the stage from her parents, vaudeville actor Eddie Garr and The Rockettes dancer Phyllis.

After graduating from college in Los Angeles, the ambitious Teri Garr moved to New York, where she initially turned her attention to ballet, later dedicating herself to acting at the prestigious Actor’s Studio.

According to Variety magazine, Garr’s film and television career was extremely prolific, with dozens of productions in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
