American actor Jonah Hill has struggled with his weight for years, but found balance through nutrition, running and boxing. At 37, he returns to the public’s attention with a visible physical transformation and sends a message of acceptance to the insecure.
The actor surprised his fans with a much more flexible figure, on the set of his upcoming comedy /Instagram
Jonah Hill, the actor known for his roles in 21 Jump Street and Moneyball, has gradually transformed his lifestyle after years of having a complicated relationship with his own weight. As a teenager, Hill confessed that he felt “fat and unattractive”: “I truly believe that everyone has a teenage picture that they are ashamed of. Mine is with that fat, unattractive 14-year-old who felt ugly in the eyes of the world and desperately wanted to be accepted by skaters.”
Having reportedly weighed 127kg, the actor has fluctuated in weight over the years after first starting his weight loss process in 2011, writes the Daily Mail.

What changes it has made
He lost 18 kg after consulting a nutritionist and switching to a diet based on Japanese food. He started running, doing push-ups – initially 10 a day, then 100.
“I wish it was something crazy, like a pill or a genie, but I went to a nutritionist and he told me what to eat to change my habits. I found that Japanese food helped me a lot.” he said in 2012.
The actor admitted that it was difficult for him to give up beer, confessing that a pint is “Achilles’ heel”.
However, in 2016, the actor packed on the pounds to play arms dealer Efraim Diveroli in War Dogs, alongside Bradley Cooper and Miles Teller.
After the movie was released, Jonah reached out to his friend Channing Tatum to ask him how he could lose weight again.
Speaking candidly on The Tonight Show, he told Jimmy Fallon a year later: “I wanted to get back in shape, so I called Channing Tatum and said, ‘Hey, if I eat less and go to a trainer, will I get in shape?'”
The star took up boxing to lose weight
Jonah then took up boxing to support himself. In 2021, he opened up in a post that went viral about how body shame affected him.
“I don’t think I took my shirt off in a pool until I was about 35, not even in front of family and friends. It probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities hadn’t been compounded by years of public ridicule about my body from the media and interviewers.”the actor confessed. He added: “I’m 37 and I finally love and accept myself.”
The star said his message is for “kids who don’t take their shirts off at the pool: have fun You are wonderful, great and perfect. With all my love,” concluded.
