What can you do with 750 lei? A weekend in the mountains in Romania, two full fuel or … eight dream days in Jordan, between Roman ruins, teas with peppermint and gold.
Two Romanian tourists said “Yes” a low-cost flight to the unknown and returned with stories for a life from a vacation on their own in Jordan. Here’s how.
Low-cost flight, oriental vibe
It all started with a low-cost flight offer from Ryanair that seemed too good to be true: 750 lei, round trip, for two people from Otopeni to Amman. Tickets have been bought since March. “From July, the tickets were already very expensive, you could not reach them anymore.”reported two Romanian tourists in a post on a Facebook group dedicated to dream holiday enthusiasts.
For a destination like Amman, cheap last-wise tickets are a rarity. In contrast, to destinations such as Stansted, Bergamo or Bologna, bargain opportunities are a little more frequent.
“I said,” Let’s see what it is like in Jordan! “And, in less than three hours, we were already landed in Amman, in a horn and yellow light chaos. It was like the whole city had come out to tell us” welcome “,” the authors of the post told.
On the social networks they shared their experience and offered a series of tips and travel tips on how to enjoy an exotic adventure, without emptying your account or paying for half a year.
Jordan Pass – which opens your gates of Jordan and saves your budget
The first secret for a cheap holiday in Jordan? Jordan Pass – a brilliant combination of visa, access to real attractions and savings. It exempts you from paying the visa (which normally costs about 300 lei), includes free entry to over 40 tourist attractions, including Petra, and costs between 70 and 80 euros, depending on how many days you choose for Petra.
“We said” yes “without blinking. The condition was to stay at least three nights. Easy to check – we had eight days available and hungry of ancient ruins”, the Romanians confessed.
By car through Jordan: a mix of rally and patience
Jordan is the kind of country that “Ask four wheels”. So tourists rented a car from Wheego, for which they paid 770 lei for eight days, plus a guarantee of 2,200 lei. They were also offered a complete, optional insurance of 800 lei, but they decided not to buy it, going-as they would say-at risk, confident in their drivers’ skills and in the historian without traffic incidents.
“The roads are surprisingly good. The traffic, on the other hand, is a sport. Horn, overcoming, traffic lights. All you need is cold blood and stop listening to GPS when it says” on the left band “”the authors of the post were also pointed out.
Pont for those who choose four -wheel vacation: “Attention to radars!”
Among the tips offered by the Internet users attracted by the post, the recommendation to the Romanian tourists eager to visit the Jordan with the car to be very attentive to the radar: “Great care for radars, after a few days the fines in the system also appear, and the company from which you rented the car will announce you. We had 15 km/h over the limit and received a fine of 20 dinars (25 euros – n.red.). Most people from the airport, on the return flight, had received fines.”
A reality confirmed by the posts of post: “Yes, exactly it is! And we had the surprise to receive a fine after returning home, fixed as you say. It is good to be very careful about the limits, especially since the radars are everywhere and no extra km. It happens to many.
Money and Internet: How are you doing without a headache
In Jordan, the cash is essential, because many places do not accept payment with the card, and the ATM withdrawals come with a consistent commission-about 33 lei per transaction.
For the Internet, they chose Digi Roaming, at 0.80 euros/GB, and a spare ESIM through Airlo: 2GB for 45 lei.
“I had a signal in the desert. Better than in the North Station”the tourists noted, who recommend to the Romanians who arrive in Jordan to make a greater amount of money from the beginning, to avoid repeated commissions: “Cash is King”.
Central accommodation overlooking history
They opted for several accommodations, for practical reasons: to be as close to the attractions concerned. For three nights at Hotel Layaali, in the heart of Amman, they paid 500 lei, with breakfast included. The accommodation proved to be extremely inspired: direct view to the Roman Theater, clean rooms, near parking and welcoming hosts: “It’s the kind of place where you wake up and wonder if you didn’t dream that you were sleeping in a Roman fortress.”
The first effective contact with the atmosphere and Jordanian culture had it through local gastronomy: hummus, falafel and tea, served on the evening of the first day, at 11:00 pm.
“After accommodation, the first instinct was clear: the food. On a local terrace I tasted Hummus, Falafel, Mutabbal and Hot Tea. We do not know if it was great hunger or brilliant food. Probably both. It was a perfect day,” the Romanians mentioned.
Day 2: ruins, ups, golden sunsets. From teleportation in the past to “wow”
The next day it started with a traditional breakfast: labneh, olives and eggs. Followed o “Teleport” direct in time in the Roman theater (See photo gallery)where they were impressed by the impeccable acoustics – “It is fixed as you see it in the pictures: imposing, round and with an acoustic to hear your thoughts” – And the feeling that history is still alive: “Bum! We woke up in the second century.”
The climb to the citadel was a serious test of will – 30 good walking – but the panoramic view over Amman was worth the full: “Wow” It was the word of the day.
“Hercules was the first muscular influence in the region”
The museum of popular traditions has proven to be small, but full of charm.
And Hercule’s temple, with his massive columns and the remains of a huge statue, left it without reply, but with memories imprinted on the retina: “Apparently, Hercules was the first muscular influence in the region.”
After the history lesson, they opted for relaxation on Rainbow Street, among cafes, souvenirs and hookah.
Authentic taste, local atmosphere
Lunch served him in an emblematic place-Hashem restaurant-, where they enjoyed the endless Falafel and Hummus, seasoned with salad, all for less than 25 lei.
“You say that the falafel was born there. Nothing sophisticated, but everything in superlative”the tourists noted. And the sunset in Amman has proven to be a magical moment, “The cherry on the trip.”
In the evening, the hotel terrace offered a moment of peace over a city that never sleeps: “The light fell on the buildings, the minarets were profiled in the area, and in our hand – another tea with peppermint. If this is just the beginning of the holiday, which follows more.”
“Jordan, a country with a low risk of incidents!”
And those who worried about the geopolitical instability in the area, with wars and other armed conflicts, tourists wanted to reassure them: “In Amman and in the areas I visited I found a quiet, without alarms or conflict atmosphere. It is an excellent destination for travelers who want to explore a fascinating culture. Jordan is one of the safest countries in which I have been, despite the fact that its geographical position can give any tourist. A low risk of incidents! ”.
Conclusion: When low-cost means high-back
Jordan is not only accessible, but also safe, authentic and spectacular.
