Tensions in the education system are rising again. The Federation of Education Unions “Spiru Haret” and the Federation of Free Education Unions sent a message announcing the organization of a protest at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education and Research, on Wednesday, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The action concerns all the measures adopted in the last months by the ministry, which the teachers consider abusive and without public consultation.
The two federations sent a message expressing their protest against the lack of social dialogue and the unilateral decisions regarding salaries and working conditions in education.
The two trade unions dispute the way the ministry changed the algorithm for calculating teachers’ salaries, accusing the institution of “misinformation” and unilateral actions.
In a joint statement signed by the leaders Simion Hăncescu (FSLI) and Marius Nistor (FSE “Spiru Haret”), the unions claim that the Ministry of Education “he misinformed the public opinion and the employees of the state pre-university education”claiming that teachers had their incomes reduced for the month of September due to a change in the way the neuropsychological overload increment was calculated in the EduSAL application.
“We have received numerous notifications from the territory regarding the reduction of teachers’ salaries. The Ministry changed the algorithm for calculating the increment without consultation and without communicating the report of the Court of Accounts which was the basis of this decision”the representatives of the two federations sent.
The trade unionists state that they do not have access to the EduSAL program and that the Ministry refuses to answer the calls or provide the documents requested by Law 544 on free access to information of public interest.
According to union leaders, the situation demonstrates a “total lack of transparency and respect for social partners”. They demand the resignation of the Minister of Education, Daniel David, accusing “an administrative dictatorship” in making decisions regarding the salary of education staff.
Wednesday’s protest comes after several public warnings from the federations regarding the application of Law no. 141/2025 and its effects on teachers’ incomes. The unions announce that they will continue the protest actions until the Ministry provides official explanations and presents the report of the Court of Accounts.
