PSD deputy Mihai Fifor criticizes the decision of the Constitutional Court: Archive
The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) decided on Thursday that the statements of wealth and interests of the dignitaries will no longer be published on the website of the National Integrity Agency (ANI) or on other official pages of public institutions. Also, it will no longer be mandatory to mention the revenues and goods held by spouses and children.
The decision is final and mandatory, which means that these documents, until now public, will be kept secret.
Fifor: “Transparency is not negotiable”
The reaction did not delay to appear from the PSD leader Arad, the deputy Mihai Fifor, who considers the CCR decision a major risk for the confidence of the citizens in the political class.
“I cannot help but notice that someone is playing, insistently, with the fire next to the bottle ”said Fifor, in a Facebook post.
The deputy points out that transparency is a fundamental principle of democracy: “Transparency is not negotiable. Is a basic principle of any functional democracy, which you assume when you assume a public dignity position or function”.
Call to Parliament: Emergency Legislative Intervention
Fifor requests Parliament’s rapid intervention to correct “the legislative breach“Created by this decision:”I think it is imperative for the Parliament to intervene urgently, to correct this legislative breach and to guarantee, by law, the right of Romanians to know who leads them, what wealth it has and what interests it represents. “
He stresses that such a lack of transparency only amplifies the confidence crisis in institutions and the political class: “As if someone wants, with everything inside, to deepen the crisis of confidence in the fundamental institutions of the state and in the political class as a whole”.
The statements of wealth, still public, at least for some
Despite the CCR decision, Mihai Fifor announces that he will continue to publish his statements of wealth and interests:
“Respect for citizens begins with transparency. And who runs away from it has nothing to do in public functions. I, one, will continue to make my statements of wealth and interests.”
In the same line, Sorin Grindeanu, the interim president of the PSD, said he would continue to publish his wealth statements, even after the Constitutional Court’s decision.
